Google's four-color logo was designed by Ruth Kedar in 1999. The choice to use green at the end was deliberate: co-founder Sergey Brin wanted to signal that Google didn't follow conventions, since green is not a primary color. The palette was refreshed in 2015 with flatter, more saturated values to work better on mobile screens. In 2025, Google introduced gradient-aware color variants for AI product surfaces such as Gemini, but the four base hex codes remain the official brand standard for all non-gradient contexts.
Google's product UIs use the four colors functionally: Blue for primary CTAs (Search, Sign In), Red for destructive actions and YouTube, Yellow for Maps pins and warnings, Green for success states and Calendar. The full four-color set appears together only in the wordmark and the 'G' favicon. For web use: --google-blue: #4285F4; --google-red: #DB4437; --google-yellow: #FBBC04; --google-green: #0F9D58. Why does Google Yellow show as #FBBC04 and not #F4B400?
#FBBC04 is the current value referenced in Google's partner-marketing materials. #F4B400 was a commonly cited older value that predates the 2015 material design refresh. For any new design work referencing Google's brand, #FBBC04 is the accurate current standard.
